How the Race Unfolded.
The first handicap for 2020 produced a small field, with the current form of most riders an unknown. The scratch riders had done a hard 140km the previous day but still performed well to average 38 plus on the outward bound leg and on the return.
The limit riders both rode well too in the lighter winds, but it was the middle pair of new rider Jason Sterling and Peter Parnaby who performed well above expectation to catch the limit riders at the top of McCrackens Hill on the return journey, and then went on the win.
In the final sprint, Jason Sterling showed he will be a force to be reckoned with in future sprints, easily taking out the win from Peter Parnaby with Kevin Grellet third.
Fastest race time went to Sean Prins ahead of Aidan Leahy.
