How the Race Unfolded.
Riding his first race after a break, limit rider Peter Mayo was struggling to find his form, and when teamed with Kevin Grellet, the pair were well down on expected time at the 25.5km turn, at which point they were caught by the 11.30 minute bunch, which were going great guns.
In the 11.30 minute bunch, Crystal Wemyss is finding some form and Meg Parnaby, even though she had done an Open the day before, had carbo loaded the previous night on half a tub of ice-cream, which produced a great performance the next day. Along with Jen Collier, who always puts in a good effort and Les Dunn, another rider gaining some fitness, this bunch was going to be hard to catch.
Scratch arrived at the turn a bit over 5 minutes later, having made up about 6 minutes, but with only 18.5km to go, were down on the middle bunch.
At the finish, Meg Parnaby had the legs to take out the win, from Kevin Jen Collier and Kevin Grellet. Sean Prins once again powered across the line first of the scratch riders to record fastest race time from Frank Kean.
