How the Race Unfolded.
Unusual for the course, a north easterly wind prevailed on the day, which made for a much faster course than usual, with the head wind sections either downhill or tending to be more sheltered.

With the first 18 kilometers mostly tail wind, all averages to the Henty Highway were high, but gradually came down after the return journey into the wind each lap.

Such conditions tend to favour the limit riders, and Peter Mayo and Kevin Grellet made the most of it, finally getting to the bottom of the mount a full kilometer an hour faster than last year, averaging 29.45kph, then Grellet climbed in 18 min 22 sec to take the win by a bit over 2 minutes.

Further back, all the other bunches were close to handicapped expectations, and arrived at the bottom of the final climb up the mount with from about 1 minute to 2 minutes between each bunch, allowing for differences in climbing times.

Meg Parnaby put in another great ride up the mount, to get to the top in second place and only about 10 seconds off her personal best climbing time. Frank Kean was third and also put in a really strong climb, taking 40 seconds off his previous best, recording 13 min 18 sec, a further 30 seconds behind Parnaby. Jen Collier was fourth.

Frank Kean recorded the fastest race time of 1 hour 32 min 35 sec.
