How the Race Unfolded.
For the second week in a row, a certain unnamed scratch rider presented with a mechanical problem just before the start, although this week it was less than 10 minutes before they were due to leave. Only able to access the large chain ring and the smaller 4 cogs at the rear, the certain scratch rider was in great double that he would manage to get up the hills. As that would only leave 2 main workers, as Peter Parnaby was only a .3 scratch rider at best, the handicappers took the decision to start scratch a minute earlier.

However, in practise the certain unnamed scratch rider managed just fine, not missing a turn for the whole race! Consequently scratch managed to get within a bulls roar of the front two bunches on the first hill on the return journey, still with about 16km to go, and backed off as they had had an unfair advantage.

Meanwhile, the limit riders of Kevin Grellet and Peter Mayo, who was back for the first time after hand surgery, had averaged 27kph out to the turn, and were only about 2 and a half minutes in front of the middle bunch.

The middle bunch had ridden well to average 33.5kph to the turn, with new rider Anthony Heyward contributing well to the bunch, along with Dean Hayward, Jen Collier and Les Dunn.

On the reurn journey, scratch waited until the leading riders were over the last main hill to go before overtaking them, allowing most of the riders to get on, and the whole group then worked until the finish.

Peter Wemyss took out the sprint from Edwin Irvine, Dean Hayward and Anthony Heyward.
