How the Race Unfolded.
Lights winds greeted the field for the out and back 43.5km handicap. All the bunches were very close to handicap expected averages at the turn, except for the second scratch riders who were slightly down overall.
On the return journey, scratch caught the second scratch riders near the top of McCrackens hill, with about 5km to go. Up front the limit riders were still hanging on to a good lead, with the chasing second limit riders closing in, as were the scratch riders.
With only 1 kilometer to go, limit still held a small lead, but found an extra burst of speed to hang on to win by 18 seconds, with Peter Mayo taking out the race from Kevin Grellet.
Drew Heard was third just ahead of Malcolm Hayes, who pipped Meg Parnaby just on the line. Hayes took fastest race time.
