How the Race Unfolded.
A good field turned out for the final race of the year, held on an out and back course from Fyans Creek, around the top of Lake Lonsdale to just before the highway.

The south westerly wind gave the riders a push out to the turn, with all bunches recording good times.

From the start it was obvious that the second scratch bunch was flying, with all riders contributing. However at the turn the lone limit rider Ross Lumley was doing well, and would prove hard to catch.

At this point the third limit riders had only taken 30 seconds out of the second limit bunch, and the second scratch riders were less than a minute behind them, but on the return journey the second limit riders must has tired as the third limit bunch caught them about a kilometer before McCrackens Hill, with about 7 kilometers to go, but were in turn caught on the hill by the second scratch riders.

Meantime the scratch riders had also been riding really hard, averaging 40.35kph to the turn, but the second scratch riders had lifted their game 1.5kph above recent race efforts and were never going to be caught.

They finally reeled in the lone limit rider with about one kilometer to go. In the final sprint Malcolm Hayes just held out Danny Monaghan by about half a wheel to take out the race, with Edwin Irvine third and Dean Hayward fourth. Fastest race time went to Peter Wemyss ahead of Frank Kean.
