How the Race Unfolded.
A light to moderate north westerly gave the field a lift out to Greens Creek, will all bunches making good time, but scratch were really firing and made up a good amount of time on that first leg.

The second leg across to Campbells Bridge was mostly a head wind, and by the time the bunches turned back towards Stawell the limit riders only held a 30 second lead over second limit, who caught the limit riders about 3 kilometers down the road, with about 12 kilometers to go.

At the same turn, the second scratch riders were only about 15 seconds ahead of scratch, who had done very well to have averaged 37.75kph to this point, and the catch came about 3 kilometers towards Stawell when all the riders combined, and worked most of the rest of the way together.

The combined scratch and second scratch bunches caught the combined front of the field just over the last the mid final leg hills, with about 7 kilometers to go. The pace continued until the base of the final hill into Stawell, where everyone started looking at one another and the pace dropped. There were a few test surges up the hill into Stawell, but it wasn't until the final pinch before the turn up Moonlight Street, that the pace lifted and the remaining field was stretched out.

Peter Wemyss took out the sprint from Edwin Irvine and Malcolm Hayes, with Steve Monks in fourth place.
