How the Race Unfolded.
A mostly tail wind pushed riders out to the turn point at Landsborough West, with all riders recording good averages. All the bunches were close to expected time, except second scratch, who were down about 1 minute 30 seconds. Averages to the half way mark were limit 27.57kph, second limit 34.66kph, second scratch 36kph and scratch 41.87kph.
On the return journey, Steve Monks was on fire, and left an exhausted Sean Prins and bridged the gap to second scratch himself, catching them at the bottom of the first main hill on the return journey, at about the 34km mark, then rode past and on in pursuit of the limit riders.
Limit and second limit had come togther with about 7km to and still had over a minute and a half lead with 6km to go, but Steve Monks had the head down and bum up and managed to hit the front with about 300 metres to go up the hill to the finish, taking out the race ahead of Meg Parnaby who finished 10 seconds later and John McIntyre in third.
