How the Race Unfolded.
A sunny day and light winds resulted in good racing conditions, with Peter Mayo and Kevin Grellet riding well to average 28kph at the turn at Landsborough West. Meg Parnaby and John McIntyre turned next 5min 20sec behind, averaging 31.12kph, but the second scratch bunch were motoring, powered along by Peter Wemyss and Aidan Leahy, and were only 2min 25sec behind at the turn, having averages 35.7kph. making scratches chances of catching them very slim.
On the return journey second scratch caught second limit with about 15km to go, then the combined bunch went on to catch the limit riders over the top of the second long climb heading back to Stawell, with about 8km to go. Aidan Leahy went on to win the sprint from Peter Wemyss and Meg Parnaby.
Wayne Klauss took the fastest race time honours.
