How the Race Unfolded.
The first part of the race out to the turn at Landsborough West was slightly wind assisted, with Peter Mayo averaging 27.4kph, turning a minute 15 seconds ahead of Lumley and Grellet, who averaged 30.31kph. They in turn were followed by Meg Parnaby another 55 seconds back, having averaged 31.64kph to the turn.
Second scratch turned just over 8 minutes later, having averaged 37.48kph, and scratch was another 5 minutes behind after loosing Peter Wemyss after about 7 kilometers. Scratch averaged 41.47kph to the turn.
On the return journey, the 3 limit bunches came together all at once at the start of the first long hill, with about 15 kilometers to go.
Parnaby and Lumley proved too strong for Mayo and Grellet, and rode away, to eventually hold of second scratch by about 45 seconds. Parnaby crossed the line ahead of Lumley, then Shaun Blackie and Edwin Irvine.
Fastest time went to Steve Monks ahead of Frank Kean.
