How the Race Unfolded.
A strong north easterly made the outward leg from Stawell to Landsborough West a slow slog, and the return journey a high speed dash.
The limit riders, powered along by Dean Hayward, who was firing on all cylinders, turned at the half way point with a good lead over the mid field bunch, who had scratch closing in behind them.
Scratch caught the mid field bunch after the first main hill on the return journey, at about the 37km mark, and charged on in pursuit of the limit riders, who only came into sight in the last 4 or 5 kilometers.
The finish was contested between Tony Lloyd and Dean Hayward, with Lloyd just taking the win from Hayward. Peter Parnaby was third with scratch rider Steve Monks fouth, about 20 seconds behind the winner.
