How the Race Unfolded.
A light west to north westerly made for a head wind for the first 12 km then a tail to the turn, and a head wind back along the Sandbar Road.
At the turn point at 25.5km, with 18km still to go, Peter Mayo had averaged 27.8kph and still had a lead of 6 and a half minutes over second limit, who went off slowly and never really recovered, averaging 34.7kph to the turn, and were caught soon afterwards.
Second scratch went off hard and had averaged 36.58 to the turn, stil 1 minute 15 seconds in front of scratch, who worked hard to get to within 20 seconds at McCrackens Hill, about 5km from the finish.
With about 4km to go, Peter Mayo was caught, but a tired scratch was struggling to close the remaining gap, and only just caught the combined mid bunches with about half a kilometer to go.
Wayne Klauss powered away to a clear win in the sprint, ahead of Drew Heard and Sean Prins, who recorded fastest race time of 1 hour 9 minutes 30 seconds, an average of 37.55kph.
Wayne Klauss - 1 hour 12 minutes 15 seconds
Average speed of 36.12kph
Sean Prins - 1 hour 9 minutes 30 seconds
Average speed of 37.55kph
Lightish north westerly winds.
