Landsborough West 50.5km Scratch Races
Sunday 14th August 2016
Wayne Klauss, Gary Brumby, Dean Hayward, Edwin Irvine and Tony Lloyd.
Meg Parnaby and Les Dunn
1st Edwin Irvine
2nd Wayne Klauss
3rd Tony Lloyd
1st Meg Parnaby
2nd Les Dunn
The event was held as scratch races, but because of the low numbers it was also set up like a handicap, with D Grade off first on 20 minutes, followed by C Grade off 10 minutes 30 sec, the lone A Grade rider off about 3 minutes and B Grade off 0 minutes.
Being an out and back course with the turn at 26.5km, the lone A Grade rider Sean Prins had averaged 35kph, just slightly slower than the 5 man B Grade bunch. On the return trip he still managed to finish 2 minutes 10 seconds ahead of the B Grade bunch, averaging about 34.5kph, about half a kilometer per hour slower than the chasing bunch, which was a great effort.
In the B Grade race, Wayne Klauss took off up the long last hill, about 5km from home, with Edwin Irvine in tow, and the two worked together to hold off the chasing three riders. Irvine crossed the line first with Klauss second.
Peter Mayo rode a strong race and held off the chasing C Graders Parnaby and Dunn until well into the closing stages, finally being caught about 5km from home.
