How the Race Unfolded.
The fact that about a third of the course is a long drag uphill didn't faze scratch, who consistenly lapped the 7km circuit at 38kph, and had reeled in the second scratch riders, who were lapping the course at a consistent 36kph, at the end of the 5th of 7 laps. This combined bunch soon after caught the limit riders who started off at 34kph but slowly dropped their pace as the race went on.
In the final sprint Wayne Klauss took off a fair way from the line and caught most of the rest of the field napping. He hung on to win from Sean Prins and Peter Parnaby.
Wayne Klauss - 1 hour 20 minutes 15 seconds
Average speed of 35.88kph
Sean Prins - 1 hour 16 minutes 45 seconds
Average speed of 37.52kph
Light to moderate southerly.
