How the Race Unfolded.
Limit riders Meg Parnaby, John McIntyre and Peter Mayo set off in almost calm conditions, with Mayo dropping off after about 10 kilometres due to injury.
By the turning point at the half way mark, the limit riders were down about 40 seconds, with all the other bunches within 5 to 10 seconds of their expected handicap marks.
On the return journey, a light southerly had arisen, resulting in a side to head wind for the return journey. The second limit riders had began to tire, allowing the second scratch riders to catch them with about 7 kilometres to go. The combined bunches then set off after the limit riders, the larger bunch ensuring the tiring scratch riders would remain out of the picture.
The combined midfield bunches finally caught the limit riders about two and half kilometres from home. In the final sprint, Danny Monaghan, who had been one of the powerhouses of the second scratch bunch all day, took line honours from Wayne Klauss, ahead of Tim Schneider and Drew Head.
Peter Wemyss took out fastest time from Seam Prins.
