How the Race Unfolded.
A cold morning gave way to a still day with patches of sunshine, with very light north easterly winds, fading to nothing at times.

The limit riders rode a great race, and with middle bunch getting a late start when one rider missed the start, it was a race between the limit riders and scratch.

However, the Kelly element was even greater than the handicappers had anticipated, with Dennis Kelly helping to propel the scratch riders to an average speed of 40.9kph to the base of the climb up Mt Arapiles.

Once on the climb, a real battle developed between Alan McCulloch and Dennis Kelly, with both riders locked together until the last 100 metres, when Kelly took off to win by 5 seconds over McCulloch.

Winners Time and Fastest Time
Dennis Kelly - 1 hour 25 minutes 34 seconds
Average speed of 38.56kph

Weather Conditions
Very little to no wind - what there was was from the north east.
