How the Race Unfolded.
Meg Parnaby and Les Dunn set off at a good speed and had reeled in Kevin Grellet just before the turn at half way. At the turn, they were .4kph up on their expected time handicap time, while all the other bunches were either right on or slightly under.
After the turn, the return leg to McKrackens was into a slight head wind, then after the turn a tail wind home.
On the return journey, the second scratch riders Geoff Richards and Aidan Leahy caught Tony Lloyd and Dean Hayward with about 5 kilometers to go, while the scratch riders were slowly but surely narrowing the gap to Richards and Leahy.
However, Parnaby and Dunn, with the assistance of Grellet, were the only bunch to increase their average on the return journey, and consequently took out the race with Parnaby winning from Grellet and Dunn.
The combined 10 minute and 4.15 minute bunches finished a couple of minutes later, with scratch only 10 seconds behind. Sean Prins took out fastest time from Peter Wemyss
Meg Parnaby - 1 hour 32 minutes 22 seconds
Average speed of 32.15kph
Sean Prins - 1 hour 17 minutes 42 seconds
Average speed of 38.22kph
