Grampians Vets cyclists Laura White
and Meg Parnaby both won silver at the South Pacific
Veteran Cycling Championships, held over the Easter
break at Maryborough, Victoria.
Fridays Age Group Scratch Races
The women did a 45km course and the men a 65km course.
Laura White won the only medal for the day, placing second in her age group. Meg Parnaby was 5th after she and Carolyn Dangerfield from South Australia did most of the work for the race.
In the mens events all Grampians riders put in great rides and finished with the main bunches. Glenn Ford finished 7th and in the main bunch in his age group, 15 seconds behind two breakaways, with another rider in between.
Steve Monks finished 11th and in the middle of the main bunch, with 2 riders about 45 seconds out in front and also with one in between, taking out the placings.
Saturdays Age Group Time Trials
Meg Parnaby won a silver in her age group time trial, beaten by Carolyn Dangerfield from South Australia. Her average was down on previous years at 33.07kph, but she was feeling ill before the race.
Geoff Richards put in another great effort, and broke the 40kph mark with his average of 40.39kph, his best at the championships so far.
Danny Monaghan rode in the same age group as Geoff and finished 13th with an average of 38.53kph.
Mondays Cecil Cripps Open Handicap
Meg Parnaby, riding off limit, came in in 8th place in the Cecil Cripps handicap held on the Monday. Laura White was next in 47th place and Tony Lloyd was 61st.
