Limit Clear Winners
Rifle Butts Short Course 46km Handicap
Sunday 7th October 2012

  Meg Parnaby

Limit riders Meg Parnaby and Peter Mayo rode to an easy victory in last Sundays Rifle Butts 46km handicap, held near Horsham.

Riding off eighteen and a half minutes the pair were not in danger of being caught after they put in a strong second half of the race to stay well clear of the chasing eight minute riders Daryl Elliott, Wayne Klauss and Les Dunn.

At the turn onto the Henty highway, twenty kilometres into the race, the eight minute riders had made up 5 minutes on the limit riders and seemed to be well on track, but seemed to fade over the closing stages to finish well behind.

The scratch riders Peter Wemyss, Rod Hetherington, Shaun Blackie, Frank Kean, and visiting Northern Vets rider Shane Miller, hit trouble when Peter Wemyss hit the deck on gravel on a corner and went down, puncturing at the same time. With all the scratch riders stopping to help, this put an end to their chances in the race. Fortunately Peter was up and riding after the puncture was repaired.

Meg Parnaby took out the race from Peter Mayo, with Wayne Klauss third.

Miller eventually crossed the line to take out fastest time from Frank Kean, still averaging 37.3 including the time they spent stopped.

Looking for some company to share the kilometres with?

There are usually Training Groups leaving both Stawell and Horsham at regular weekly times.
