Prins Times Charge to Perfection
Concongella/Joel South Handicap
Sunday 21st August 2011

  Sean Prins

Scratch rider Sean Prins time his charge perfectly when he blasted his way to victory in last Sundays Grampians Vets 49 kilometre Concongella/Joel South Handicap, held in ideal conditions.

Prins, along with fellow scratch riders Wayne Klauss, Gary Brumby, Dean Hayward, and Peter Wemyss had to work hard to reel in the 2 minute riders Daryl Elliott, Crystal Wemyss, Drew Heard, Stuart King and Geoff Richards, who were determined to stay away.

At the Joel Joel turn, with 19 kilometres to go, the scratch riders were just 25 seconds behind, and with the carrot dangling in front of their noses they put in that extra effort to bring both bunches together on the next big hill 4 kilometres later.

This combined bunch then set out after the 9 minute limit riders Tom Eldridge, Damian Rabl, Meg Parnaby, Peter Mayo, Tony Lloyd and Les Dunn, who were still some distance up the road.

However, with 8 kilometres to go, the next big hill took its toll on the limit riders, with the chasing bunch making contact half way up.

With the whole field together, the pace was kept high to try to weed out the weaker riders over the closing stages of the race, resulting in a bunch of about 10 riders making the charge down the finishing straight.

With 150 metres to go Sean Prins made his move, charging to the front then using his great strength to hold on to win by a bike length from Dean Hayward and Gary Brumby.

Prins time was 1 hour 26 minutes.
