Veteran Cyclists competed in the Annual Greg Smith
Memorial race on Sunday, which was run over Horsham’s
62Km long Rifle Butts course. A perfect autumn morning
greated the field as they lined up for the start.
Tom Eldridge
must have felt like a Tattslotto winner when he noted
he had been given the limit mark of 15minutes 45
seconds.
He teamed
well with Meg Parnaby to complete the course without
being sighted by the rest of the field, taking out
an easy win from Parnaby.
The scratch
bunch had worked hard all race, with Tim Schneider
putting in long turns along with Drew Heard, Danny
Monaghan and Steve Monks.
However,
they were unable to close the gap to second scratch
markers Leon Gibson, Gerard O’Brien,
Alan Barnett and Dean Hayward who in turn had run
down the remnants of the seven minute bunch in Tony
Lloyd and Peter Mayo with 10km to ride.
The subsequent
sprint for 3rd place was taken out by Hayward with
Leon Gibson taking out fourth place. Tim Schneider
collecting the fastest time.
