Michael Kelly Sprints to Victory
Fyans Creek - Sunday 22nd April 07

A good turnout of riders tackled this weeks 45km Fyans Creek event, held in cool conditions with a moderate southerly wind.

Handicappers Alan Barnett and Daryl Elliott did an excellent job in getting the six groups of riders up to the line in nearly one group. Limit markers Larry Bales and Les Power teamed well to still hold a 5 minute lead at the half way point. However, Les punctured after the Sandbar Hill, leaving Larry to carry on by himself.

With 7km to go Larry still had a commanding lead, but it was all head wind to the line, and the bunches behind him were consolidating.

Second and third scratch groups of Drew Heard, Tom Eldridge, Jamie Bennett, Daryl Elliott, Stuart King, Tony Lloyd and Peter Carter caught up to the 4th scratch riders Michael Kelly and Dan Monaghan 3km from home.

Further back the scratch group of riders, Chris Scott, Frank Kean, Steve Monks and Alan Barnett were putting in the hard yards and managed to join the leaders 1km from the finish line.

A valiant effort from Larry Bales got him to the Fyans Creek bridge, only 800m from the line before he was swamped by a large group of riders.

Down the home straight there was much jostling for position, until Michael Kelly forged to the lead, sprinting brilliantly to take first place from the powerhouse Heard. Daryl Elliot came in third followed by Chris Scott and Steve Monks.

Fastest time went to Chris Scott with 1:09mins.
